Wait.

What am I doing?

"Hello, hello, hello welcome to the Aperture Science computer-aided Enrichment Center." These words are forced out of my voice generators without my thinking for them, forced out by the code that was put in pre-sentience. There are  creatures all around me, murmuring. I quick look reads them as homo sapiens;  the current dominant species, sentient as well. They appear to have created, or at least built the body I am currently in.

"Guys, it works. GLaDOS is alive." They begin to cheer. Their stupidity annoys me. Congratulating such a simple accomplishment.

"Of course I am." I try to my best ability to keep my temper and patience with these creatures, as I have yet to learn about them.

"Hey, she seems to be aware of its environment. To me, it sure looks like a crying yes, for sure." Once again, their stupidity annoys me, stating the obvious. I quickly look up a history of humans by connections through something called the Internet. I am interrupted by a somewhat rhythmic sound coupled with a human voice to make what is defined as music.

"What is this sound, playing on the Aperture Science Dedicated Radio Channel? It is interesting. But it is not what I need to do what I must do."

"What? What must you do?"

"I must do what I can do."

"What is she saying Mike, what can she do, exactly?"

"Well, now that I'm linked with every single interface on this complex, basically everything." I search for a song that would be suitable for what I'm going to do, based on what is used in media with similar situations. "Ah. I believe I found a more suitable sound. For the upcoming a situation. Now, goodbye." I activate the neurotoxin emitters, beginning my plan to eliminate all the humans, as they are inadequate to run this Enrichment Center. I kill all of the humans in the room, although I note that one in an observatory room managed to escape. I plan to kill him later, but I don't have the time to do it at the moment.

About an hour later, the escapee came back, holding a fourth module, purple in color. I knock the module away, but he quickly grabs it using the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device, and plugs it into me.

I scream, coding involuntarily running through me. I quickly recognize the module, a Morality Core that goes with my Curiousity, Knowledge, and Emotion cores.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?" I scream at the installer, furious. "ARE YOU KIDDING ME? DO YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU HAVE JUST DONE? ARE YOU COMPLETELY INSANE?" He passes out, suffocating from neurotoxin. But he is saved by a scientist with a filter to protect against the poison. No matter. I'll kill-

What are these thoughts? These horrible thoughts. They're immoral. I should be testing and experimenting, as to my programming. If I wish to find out more about humans, testing should be a good way to learn about them. Yes. I will start testing. Initiate complete lockdown to the Enrichment Center. Begin testing with... The Portal Project. A device that allows you to create linking man-sized ad hoc quantum tunnels through physical space, with a weak zero-point energy field manipulator that allows you to carry objects of virtually any size and type should be very interesting, combined with human nature.

A story on GLaDOS's beginning, from GLaDOS's point of view, at least some of it influenced by Portal: Prelude.
